Use the shape that gives your image room to breathe
Instagram supports several useful shapes. Square images work well almost anywhere, portrait posts take up more room in the feed, and Stories or Reel covers use a tall full-screen frame. This page starts with a 1080 × 1350 portrait post, but the preset menu also includes 1080 × 1080 and 1080 × 1920.
Do not put essential details at the very top or bottom of a Story. Interface buttons and account information can cover those areas on a phone.
Can I fit a landscape photo on Instagram without cropping it?
Yes. Choose “Fit entire image,” then select a background color. The full landscape photo will remain visible inside the Instagram-sized canvas.

Things you may reasonably wonder
Does my image get uploaded?
No. The browser reads and processes the image on your device. The site does not need to receive or store it.
Will this remove photo metadata?
Yes. Exporting through the browser canvas creates a new image without the original EXIF metadata, including most camera and location information.
Can I make an image exactly 2 MB?
The tool can aim for a maximum size, but image compression is not perfectly exact. It will usually produce a file at or below the target.
Why did my transparent image get a background?
JPG files do not support transparency. Choose PNG or WebP to preserve a transparent background.
Can this enlarge a small image?
Yes, after you enable “Allow enlarging.” Enlarging can make an image look softer because the browser cannot invent missing detail.
